Who Are We?
Fundamentally, the club is structured around education and networking. SLCP exists to educate students in a broad field of contract management and legal studies. We aim to provide a meaningful journey in preparing students for law school and/or career in Contract Management by promoting and enriching student academic, professional, and social life. Because we are an NCMA (National Contract Management Association) chapter at Cal Poly, we network directly with NCMA personnel and hold forums with them. This is a good opportunity for members as it can land them internships and possible jobs after college.
What Do We Do?
The Society of Law, Contracts, & Procurement is dedicated to assisting and advancing students’ academic careers. We offer tutoring and form study groups for the law courses within the FRL department. We emphasize networking as it is important to know people who can help with career opportunities and vindicate student abilities. One of our biggest contributions is our “Professor For a Day” program. Several times during each quarter, SLCP brings in industry professionals to speak in a classroom setting. They lecture on specific topics, give advice and close with an open Q&A session. We are also in the process of bringing in alumni to speak of their success through the club's networking events. This gives students an opportunity to see the practical application of concepts they learn in class, gain insight into possible career opportunities, and expand their professional network.
Social Life
We believe in the importance of a balanced college experience. Our club holds social events to encourage networking and relationship building. We work closely with the FRL Department and hold events to get to know the faculty and professors over food of course. We also participate in interclub events within the College of Business. SLCP emphasizes in giving back to the community. While we do not strictly require service hours, we regularly organize community service events. The Animal Humane Society is the biggest event we help out with, as we also care about ending animal abuse and helping animals as much as possible.
